Nintendo recently announced that games downloaded from its eShop would be linked to the purchaser’s account rather than the console which the game has been downloaded on.
This is a huge step forward for the Japanese gaming giant – although it must be stated that almost all other major console developers have already had this functionality for quite a long time now.
It seems, however, that Nintendo may have taken two steps forward and one step back with this announcement as it has surfaced online that games downloaded to the Switch from the eShop are (for now) limited to one console at a time.
What does this mean exactly? Well, let’s assume that you have bought two Nintendo Switch units. Say you purchase The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to go with it.
With Nintendo’s previous statement, you would only need to buy copy of the game in order to play it on either console. However, with their latest statement, you may still purchase The Legend of Zelda and download it but only to one of your Switches at a time.
The Switch is scheduled to release on the 3rd of March 2017.
