Reason why Minecraft only runs at 720p on Nintendo Switch

Minecraft is now available on the Nintendo Switch, but rather interestingly there appears to be a resolution issue with the Nintendo edition of the title.

Playing the game in handheld mode produces an expected 720p resolution output, but there were some hopes to see a 1080p TV output in docked mode.

However, the reason for the problem isn’t because of the Nintendo Switch’s specifications but instead it is due to “issues currently experienced shifting from one resolution to the other when docking/undocking.”

While this issue hasn’t been resolved at the time of writing, it is possible that a patch for the problem could be released some time in the future.

The Nintendo Switch edition of Minecraft is reported to run to run at 60FPS in both docked and undocked mode.
